Introduction
|

In December 2002, Investment Coordinating
Board (BKPM) received copies of Domestic as well as Foreign Investment
Approvals issued by Provincial Investment Agencies of Special Territory
of Jakarta, Banten, Special Territory of Yogyakarta, Jambi, Central
Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, East
Nusa Tenggara and Maluku, which cause the changes of Domestic and Foreign
Investment Approvals in 2002 (up to November) from previous data published
by BKPM in November 2002. Furthermore, based on validation of the data,
the Domestic as well as Foreign Investment Approvals in 2001 were also
changed.

The total projects of Domestic Investment
Approvals in 2001 previously were 267 projects with the investment value
of Rp. 59,466.7 Billion; now these data were changed to 264 projects
with the investment value of Rp. 58,816.0 Billion. In the same period,
the total of Foreign Investment Approvals previously were 1,333 projects
with the investment value of US$ 15,055.1 Million; now these data were
changed to 1,333 projects with the investment value of US$ 15,055.9
Million. The total projects of Domestic Investment Approvals in 2002
(up to November) previously were 172 projects with the investment value
of Rp 21,467.7 Billion; now these data were changed to 178 projects
with the investment value of Rp. 21,936.8 Billion. In the same period
(January-November 2002) the total projects of Foreign Investment Approvals
previously were 1,028 projects with the investment value of US$ 7,162.4
Million; now these data were changed to 1,071 projects with the investment
value of US$ 9,062.5 Million.

Investment :

| The total projects
of Domestic Investment Approvals during January 1 - December 31, 2002
are 181 projects with Investment Value of Rp 25,262.3 Billion. There are
also 63 approvals for extension of existing domestic companies which investment
value of Rp. 9,932.9 Billion. These data figure-out that in spite of the
domestic investors enter the green fields' activities (new investment)
most importantly existing companies still have the opportunities to develop
and expand their business activities. The investment comparison of the
year 2002 to 2001 in the same period is as follows: |

Foreign Investment
The total projects of Foreign Investment
approvals during January 1 - December 31, 2002 are 1.135 projects with
Investment Value of US$. 9,744.1 Million. There are also 278 approvals
for extension of existing foreign companies with investment value of
US$. 3,684.1 Million. These data figure-out that in spite of the foreign
investors enter the green fields' activities (new Investment), most
importantly the existing companies still have the opportunities to develop
and expand their business activities in Indonesia. The investment comparison
of the year 2002 to 2001 in the same period is as follows :

Trade & Repair = 19 projects, Transport, Storage & Communication

Wood Industry = 12 projects and Other Services = 12 projects. |

During the period January 1 - December 31, 2002 the popular sector
where investors interested in, are Trading & Repair = 445 projects,
Other Services = 163 projects, Metal, Machinery, & Electronic
Industry = 91 projects, Transport, Storage & Communication =
66 projects and Hotel and Restaurant = 45 projects. |
