Useful Words and Expressions
Although English is spoken in most tourist areas, knowing a few basic Bahasa Indonesia words will greatly make your traveling easier.

Bahasa Indonesia is a gratifying language for beginners because it is quite easy to pronounce, and has no conjugations or major grammatical difficulties.

Bahasa Indonesia uses the Latin alphabet and most of its letters are pronounces like English. It is very easy to pick up key words and string them into comprehensible sentences. Generally the second to last syllable is stressed.

Pronunciation of vowels :
a as in "rather"
e as in "met"
i as in "meet", or in short as in "sit"
o as in "ought"
u as in "two"
ai as in "like"
au as in "cow"
Consonants are generally pronounced as in English, with the following exceptions :
c as in "chin"
g as in "guest"
k as in English, but almost unvoiced at the end of a word
r well rolled, as in Spanish or Latin
